The lab I am going to talk about in P1 is midwifery.
Opening and closing of the maternity ward:
The maternity unit is opened for twenty four hours.
To access the maternity ward you will have to enter a main door which will have CCTV camera to get into the door, staff will have electronic access control systems to the doorways. For patients and visitors to enter the maternity ward they will be a CCTV camera which shows a footage of the person to the receptionist, also receptionist will ask patients for their appointment details, this will ensure mothers and babies are safe. The ultrasound unit is not open twenty four hours the working hours are 7:30am to 5:30pm.
To enter the maternity ward/ unit midwifes or nurses will have a certain uniform.

The midwife or registered nurse must perform this check, which involves them to check the balance in the CD Record Book against the contents of the CD cupboard (not the reverse).

How to prepare for an ultrasound scan?
During the early stages of pregnancy, the woman should have a full bladder, therefore the sonographer can see the woman’s full reproductive organs, also see the clear image of the foetus. A sonographer suggests the women to drink two to eight ounces of glass of water an hour before the schedule appointment. The sonographer also suggests you should not urinate before the appointment as this can result in wrong results.
What happens during an ultrasound appointment?
During the ultrasound appointment, the patient will lie on the bed or table. The sonographer will apply water based gel to the abdomens and pelvic area. The gel is water based therefore it will not react with skin and won’t ruin clothes. The sonographer will now place a wand called a transducer onto the belly. The sonographer now moves the transducer around to capture the black and white images on the ultrasound screen. The sonographer may tell the woman to hold her breath so that she can capture necessary images also so that she can get clear images. At the end of the screening the sonographer will wipe the gel of the skin and will inform you to empty your
