Article Title: Article 4: Organisational Charts

In this article I am going to explain the different organisational structures of M&S and St Luke’s Hospice.
An Organisational chart is the way that jobs, responsibilities and power within the business are organised. Organisation structure is the different roles, responsibilities and jobs within the organisation and how information is communicated through the different departments.
A Functional structure is when the business is organised based on the functions e.g. Marketing, Finance, IT.Product structure is when a business is organised based on the products e.g. Asda –Marketing, Baby clothing,HR.Customer structure is about the company which is based on different target audiences e.g. Baby clothing is for parents.
A Product Structure is a business which is organised based on the products sold e.g. Tesco sells financial services,Electronics,Baby clothing et cetera.A Customer Structure is where the company is based on different target audiences e.g. Mother care which based on baby essentials such as Baby clothing. A Geographical structure is when the organisation is based on the location e.g. International includes India, UK, and USA. A hierarchical structure is about the different layers within an organisation. A flat structure means there are fewer layers within an organisation.

Marks & Spencer (M&S) Functional Areas

Finance
The Finance Department in M&S keeps records of financial activity e.g. sales made by the business. They provide managers with information about the finances of the business which influences the decision making of M&S e.g. they can reduce the cost of creating products.
Marketing
Marketing at M&S is about finding out what customers think of M&S,what they want, what price they want it it.This is about identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer needs.
Customer Service
Customer service at M&S is about dealing with them efficiently. It is about dealing with customer issues, refunds or exchanges.
Human Resources
Human Resources involve looking after the welfare of the employees, helping the managers in the processes of recruitment and helping to train employees at M&S.
Production
Production at M&S is about making sure work is carried out to a good standard e.g. making sure raw materials such as wool is converted into good quality jumpers.
