Justification and purpose of the study The contribution of this research inquiry is to provide research based evidence between life experiences or homelessness in the development of PTSD in adolescents ages 13-18. The evidence founded by the study could be utilized by service providers to develop programs that treat adolescents who is homeless and have a PTSD diagnosis. The evidence could be utilized to develop policy and request funding on the micro, macro, and mezzo level to address this barrier with hopes of reducing PTSD and homeless amongst adolescents. However, the act of becoming homeless or life experiences can have an adverse effect on the developmental process of adolescents being subjected to these issues. Adolescents who do not have exposure to communal, emotional, intellectual, ancestral, or ethnical support have a higher probability of experiencing trauma induce issues, such as, PTSD. Coates and Mc Kenzie-Mohr (2010) in a study of a 100 homeless adolescents indicated trauma is pre and post influence connected with homelessness and that PTSD is one commonly developed mental health disorder. The literature review has three sections the first section will give insight into adolescent homelessness and victimization. In the second section we will look further into the role of education and at-risk behavior and its impact on adolescent’s homelessness. For instance, Hoyt, Johnson, and Whitbeck (2005) in a research study of 428 adolescents age 16 -19 found that 2/3 (60.5%) adolescents had a chance of having a life time substance abuse issue. More so, the research study also found that one half (48.1 %) met a 12 month criteria for one disorder and 93.1% of all participants who met the criteria for a substance abuse disorder also met the criteria for at least one mental health disorder. Kort-Butler, Tyler, and Swendener (2014) specified in research literature that illicit drug use was found to be a high indicator amongst homeless adolescents. The researchers also indicated that stressors associated with homelessness amongst adolescents, such as victimization, deviant behavior, and illicit drug use can lead to depressive disorders and PTSD amongst homeless
