Both author, Pablo Neruda and Mary Oliver showed their feelings and perspectives towards nature in their poem “Ode to enchanted light” and “Sleeping in the Forest”. Despite the fact that both author showed a such calm perspective of nature, they constructed their poems with different forms and structures. And that has great effects on the poem they wrote. Pablo Neruda’s poem is an ode, a poem that deals with serious themes, such as justice, truth, or beauty. In his poem, he used three stanzas composed of overall short lines. This affected the way readers will be reading this poem. It helped making some important words or phrases outstanding. And the oustanding words or phrases helped making this poem more beautiful and appealing to the imagination. For example, in line five, the phrase “latticework of branches”. This gives us a vivid image of lights coming through trees. Also in line six to seven, the phrase “shining on every leaf”. This gives us a vivid image of lights reflecting on leaves. First thing you might notice is the fact that the stanzas in this poem are a lot fatter and longer. And they are all focused to the middle. The poem is overall calming and nursing just like Pablo Neruda’s poem. However, lyric poems, the type of poem “Sleeping in the Forest” is, are usually written and spoken in first person. So that makes Mary Oliver’s poem more personal. As you can see from line one, the very first line of the poem, the phrase “I thought the earth remembered me”. This revealed that it is Mary Oliver’s own experience and feeling with nature. The connection between nature and the author is very imagery and nursing. Fatter and longer lines makes feel like as if I am actually part of the earth
