Pablo Picasso is one of the most well-known and influence artists in the modern art. Picasso is known to be the creator of cubism. He also invented the collage and did a lot in the art movements Surrealism and Symbolism. His art work can be found all around the world. He did not only pant; He also made sculptures, ceramics, and more.
Picasso was born in Southern Spain, in October 1881, the city of Malaga. He grew up in a household that was creative and loved art. Picasso’s father was an artist and professor. He learned how create art at a very young age. He officially started to study art at the age of 11 under his father. Then, he later went to Academy of Arts. This is the time his art work changed. It became violent and dark. This may be due to his personal life and what was happing in the world around him. In the 1930s, Picasso made political art such as, the Guernica (1937). This painting was a reaction towards the bombing of the Basque town during the Spanish Civil War. He felt very upset and angry about this taking place. The context shows injured and dead people that represent what took place during the bombing. After this picture was released, Picasso and the paining were banned from Spain.
Picasso died in South of France, in 1973. Before he did he had worked many other artworks. In Picasso’s lifetime he had many influences on people and art. Some artists that were influenced by him are Amedeo Modigliani, Arshile Gorky, Willem de Kooning, and Jasper Johns. Some movements that are influenced by him are Pop Art and Conceptual Art.
Picasso’s art is found in many museums around the world. One of the biggest places is Barcelona, Spain. As stated before, Barcelona was a place where he lived created many art pieces. There is a home here that is filled with his artwork. I think having his artwork in these museums enhances his work. People all around the world can see and appreciate his
