Pain In Ray Bradbury's All Summer In A Day

Ray Bradbury’s short story, All Summer in a Day, shows the pain that can be inflicted upon someone when he or she is treated differently by their peers. Bradbury shows his readers that you should never treat someone differently based only off of their thoughts, views and/or opinions towards the world. Because in the end, the person that was taunted for having such wild thoughts may turn out to have been right all along. For example, the students of Venus thought Margot was weird and crazy for saying that the sun would be coming out for its first time in 7 years. They simply laughed at her and locked her in a closet, accusing her of being a liar and just seeking attention. Not only is it about jealousy, but it also shows that when you treat someone differently you may cause them internal pain. All the kids treated Margot like she was weird and an outcasts. They only did this because she had lived on earth and spoke of the sun the way she had remembered it. This angered the students because they had only seen the sun once in their lifetime and because they had learned about it differently and said that she was lying, even though they knew deep inside that she was most likely right. To elaborate onto the beginning statement, the kids on venus taunted Margot in several ways. Some of which being that they would shove and push her. Accuse her a being a liar. They would stand away from her when in crowds. And probably the worst of all was when they got upset with her, so they picked her up and put her in a closet. They locked the door and left her in the closet for nearly 3 hours while they got to experience the sun for their first time in 7
