This dual sense of Palestinian identity does not only exist in the specific works of Suleiman, but they are present in both the general cinema and music production of Palestine as well. Just as the topic of occupation was present in Divine Intervention, the main thread throughout Palestinian film relates to this political idea and hopes for a unified Palestinian state. Due to the diaspora and separation of the Palestinian people, less common themes are the genre, types of narratives, and country of origin. (Alexander, 151) This theme exists within the tone of the film, symbolism, perhaps narratives and characters, but it also exists in the way these movies are shot and the style of cinematography. Because of the emphasis on the effects of the occupation, and the active counter-activity from the Palestinians, many films present Palestinians in small, tight, and claustrophobic spaces. There was a push to preserve the sacred history of the Palestinian people, and of the homeland. Not as a means of claiming one identity, but to celebrate the roots before the appropriation that lead Palestine to it's splintered community. This movement to preserve history supports non-singular Palestinian identity by affirming that regardless of differences that exist within the current Palestinian situation; they all have a similar history that makes them Palestinians, rather than reinforcing that this history is the only thing that makes them Palestinian. The names of villages and towns that have been conquered by the Israelis have been recorded and presents Palestine as still present in the memory and hearts of the people regardless of its physical existence.
