The Greek myth of Pandora and the Biblical story of Eve both have a fair share of similarities, but they also have a multitude of differences. With their meaning of being created, strong curiosity, and eventual hand in the downfall of Man, they’re tied in some pretty tight knots. Two different stories, with two very similar outlines and meanings. Starting with their creation. In their similarities, Pandora and Eve were both the first women ever to be and they were made as a beautiful creature that was meant to assist and stand at men’s side. Both girls’ curiosity were too much for them and the second point is that their one small act, eating a fruit or opening a box/jar, had such an extensive effect on the world and all of humanity. In Genesis, Eve was persuaded by and evil being to do what she had done, but Pandora couldn’t control herself and opened the jar/box on her own accordance without any deception. Next, Eve’s disobedience was also at fault with her husband, whose sole responsibility was to protect and watch over his wife and family, while Pandora was all at fault with herself. Lastly, Pandora’s act will never be undone and that evil can never be washed away, but, Eve’s act still has a chance of forgiveness, a light in the darkness that will soon wash all sin from the world and bless everyone.
To conclude, Pandora and Eve are very identical in story, but they also have many major discrepancies. Through and through their creation for Man, strange inquisitive, and disobedience that lead to the eventual end of good in Mankind.
