In order to be a successful Paramedic, there are certain characteristics that a person needs to hold. For myself, I feel that I obtain a lot of these needed traits. I am a caring, compassionate, and patient. I am good at asking the appropriate questions when I am confused or misunderstand something done. With communication, I can usually get my point across pretty well with written and verbal reports. I feel like I can read a situation and solve a problem using critical thinking strategies. I am always open for feedback about what was good but more importantly, what I did wrong and how to make it better for next time.

As well as having a good character, you also need additional resources to be successful in your career. The first thing I did to prepare myself for this course was to get my diploma and graduate High School. To further prepare for being in school today, I took an extended First Aid and CPR course to refresh my knowledge of basic medical treatments. I talked to some people in my community who were Paramedics and got their perspectives on the career to get a better understanding of what I was going to be doing when I get deeper into my career and learning. First and foremost, I will successfully finish my Primary Care Paramedic course and practicums through Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Once I have finished that I plan on writing my Canadian Organizations of Paramedic Regulators (COPR) exam to become licensed so that I can work as a Paramedic. Once I pass that, I will find a job in a rural area and work for a while as a Primary Care Paramedic. Once I find a job, I plan on working there for at least a year.
