Society Would anyone ever think that over 130 million families in the United States are single-parent households? Does that mean that those children are going to be raised getting into trouble because the parent is not around enough to take care of them; or that they are going to be raised in poverty and not have anything to look forward in life like college or having a happy family when they get older? Just because a child is raised in a single-parent home does not make them any different than a child raised in a double-parent home. A child raised in a single-parent home can be successful and well-rounded due to a strong sense of self-esteem, love, and positive discipline. A child raised by a single parent with a strong sense of self-esteem will help the child also have a strong sense of self-esteem. A strong sense of self-esteem helps children resist negative peer pressure and gives them the confidence to face challenges and try new events. Teaching a child to have a healthy self-esteem is like giving then an armor against the challenges in the world. Children who know their strengths and weaknesses and feel good about themselves seem to have an easier time handling conflicts and resisting negative pressures. They tend to smile more readily and enjoy life. In contrast, children with low self-esteem can find challenges to be sources of major anxiety and frustration. Those who think poorly of themselves have a hard time finding solutions to problems. A single parent can help build their child’s self-esteem by praising them when they do something good. Children in single-parent homes do not always get the attention a child might in a double-parent home. In a single-parent home try to compliment your child when your around, let them know that you see what good they do, and how much they are maturing. When raising a child in a single-parent home love is an important affection to show. Children that have parents that do not show their love to them think their parent does not care. Every child needs parents who can notice and appreciate their special qualities. The first three years of a child's life are crucial. Those are the years that the child will develop significant, emotional and social abilities. Some of those abilities would include being comfortable around the ones that are always there, and starting to express emotions when the child is happy or sad. A single parent can show their child their love by complimenting them after a game, or a big event. Being there for your child at all times in life is an important way of showing love. They need to know you will always be there to support them in every decision they decided to make. Being a single parent you must make sure you try to go to every event, game, concert, school activity that your child has to show them that you care for them.
