Participant Observation (Dances with Wolves) is when an anthropologist not only participates in the activities of the people he is studying, but he also lives with them. While living with the people he is studying he takes careful notes and becomes semi native for a short time (if he or she chooses.) In the movie Dances with Wolves (name the Indians gave the lieutenant) Lieutenant Dunbar is sent out to a camp that he finds deserted. He stays to set the camp up, and asked for more men to be sent. During the time he is waiting on more men and supplies he befriends a tribe of Indians not far from his camp.
