Pat Carlen, one of Britain’s most imaginative and innovative sociologists,has often been called a ‘feminist criminologist’ though maybe that is something of a misnomer since she always insists that she never has employed any body of feminist when doing sociological analysis.

Carlen pointed out that women have distinct demand to men.Menstrual period,childbirth and menopause bring about their requiring specialised medical care at different age of their lives.For that reason, the prison regimes need to arrange suitable measures in order to fulfil their fundamental needs.
It is rarely identified that the background and lived experience of female offenders are universally different to men.Carlen indicated women in most communities are still discriminated where they are gaoled ,the carry with them a heavier burden of care than male prisoner.
Recently,women are the role who bear and rear children,women offender are likely to feel more guilty.Plus ,they are anxious about their children and afraid of they will lose their children
