Most would argue that the Romantic Period was an era of art, literature, and intellect lasting from 1800 to 1850. Even though Romanticism had its origin in Europe, it is a key piece in American history. Romantic literature is unique in that it uses pathos more than most professional writings, and also in the fact that those who wrote during this period were not afraid to write on topics that could be sensitive to the public. One of the unique traits about writing that was done during the Romantic Period is that it uses pathos as the main tool to appeal to the reader’s emotions. One way this is done is through the use of imagery. “Nature,” written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, is a specific example of a romantic writer using imagery to appeal to
