Advertisements are meant to persuade the viewer to buy their product. A successful advertisement will catch your attention within the first second. At times, advertisements can be misinterpreted. Instead of putting out a persuasive effect, it causes the viewers to have negative emotions towards the product. Companies try to please their audience and create a positive impact on the world through their commercial. In a Dove commercial, different races are used to insinuate diversity and different ethnic groups. Pathos is present throughout the Dove commercial that is perceived to be racist.

Adding more women of color would have shown diversity and it would have pleased all women. Also, ff the white woman would have taken of her t-shirt and reveal a woman of color; it would have prevented the ad from being banned. Although many black women feel aggrieved by this ad, the colored woman, Lola Ogunyemi in the advertisement is not. If the model in the advertisement is not offended, why should other people be? The model wanted to be part of a commercial that presented diversity and equality in women. She wanted to show that black women are powerful and beautiful. The result was not what she expected. When she was working with Dove to create the commercial, she did not feel excluded or unworthy.
In the short GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) pathos is shown by society misinterpreting a Dove body wash commercial. This commercial did not get their point across and ended up getting banned of social media. It created a racial issue because of the order and format that it was organized. Although many people got offended by this advertisement, especially black woman, the model of color was not.
