A Student Doctor must be able to demonstrate an understanding of patient confidentiality and the practice of ethical standards, the willingness to continually learn and improve upon past performances and the skills capable for speciality as they make their transition into the study and practice of medicine. Physicians have the privilege of working one-on-one with people and making a positive and everlasting impact on their lives. Every physician is unique in their own right, but certain qualities can distinguish an outstanding doctor from an average one. The same can be said about a medical student, whether in the classroom or outside of it in a clinical or community setting.

The medical field is constantly changing and as a medical student it is my responsibility to keep up to date with new practices, findings and research. I have a passion for learning and I am constantly striving to be the best in whatever I do. I never settle for complacency and I try to stay as attentive as possible both in and outside of the classroom. The path as a medical student at VCOM will present many challenges and will be filled with both ups and downs. I hope to use every experience as a teaching moment in which I can learn from my achievements as well as my mistakes. Being a student doctor comes with a lot of responsibility as you are not only representing yourself, but your academic institution. I will put forth my full effort and work to the best of my abilities. Doing more than required is expected of physicians.
