Mr. Donald is a 57 year old Caucasian Male. He is single and has no children. Mr. Donald lives alone in Solar Springs, Arkansas. Mr. Donald was admitted into the hospital for abdominal pain, which lead to emergency surgery.
Worker’s Purpose The purpose of this interaction was to complete a shadowing experience that is required by my agency.
Interview with The Medical Social Worker, Helen, and I were rounding throughout the Intensive Care Unit, meeting the newly and previously admitted Veterans. Therefore, we spoke to Mr. Donald who was admitted to the hospital on 10/28/2016 for abdominal pain, which lead to emergency surgery. Helen has meet with Mr. Donald several times and she introduced me to him. I informed Mr. Donald that I am a Social Work Intern and I will be shadowing Helen for today, so I can learn more …show more content…
Donald informed Helen that he called the Property Manager at the apartment complex where he reside, to inform her that he was admitted into the hospital, and he would pay his rent once he discharges. He stated the Property Manager informed him that there are no excuses for late rent. Mr. Donald stated he tried to informed the Property Manager that he has no one to assist him with paying his monthly bills, because he lives alone. Helen and I noticed that Mr. Donald was becoming frustrated with this issue and began to feel hopeless. Therefore, Helen asked Mr. Donald if he participates in the HUD VASH program and he stated yes. She asked for the Social Worker’s name that visits him once a month. Mr. Donald provided Helen with the requested information. Helen informed Mr. Donald that she will contact the social worker and informed her about the issues. Also, Helen informed Mr. Donald that she will contact the Property Manager and even write a letter, if needed, to resolve this issue. Mr. Donald was very thankful for the help and continue to express his concerns about getting well and returning home before the
