The assassination of Patrice Lumumba was unjust because he was killed for standing his ground, when he would not submit to western meddling; however some saw him as threat. Patrice Lumumba became Prime Minister after a harsh Belgian rule (Wallerstein 1). With his plans to unite the mineral rich country and stop the exploitation of the Congolese people. Even though many other world powers saw him as a threat with his controversial ideas.
Patrice Lumumba should not have been killed for standing his ground. His country was in a state of emergency, and when he looked toward the others for help with his newly founded country. The UN and their allies kept to peacekeeping (Weissman 1) like vultures circling around waiting for the Congo to tear itself apart. With the province Katanga succeeding under the lead of Colonel Mobutu (Weissman 2) and Belgian soldier trying to establish a hold on the former colony; panic arise in the Congo (Wallerstein 1). With the country in trouble, Prime Minister Lumumba turned to the Soviet Union for help with removing the Belgian soldiers (Wallerstein 1).
