The U.S.A. Patriot Act, made in response to the 9/11 terrorist attack, is an example of the federal government sacrificing the individual's right for the country. The Patriot Act is an act that gives officials access to your private information to use as an advantage to help prevent these attacks from happening again. One slight issue is that the act goes against the basic constitutional rights of citizens. The 4th Amendment gives the rights to the people which can protect them from searches or seizures without a probable cause or a warrant. Despite the 4th Amendment, the government can now search whatever they want to without you even knowing it. They could even find some misinterpreted information and mistake you for being a criminal.
