Peaceful resistance to laws has a positive impact on a free society in the long run. At the time of peaceful resistance, our country faces shock. Many people do not like change, and civil disobedience is a big change. Civil disobedience is a way for the people to tell the government that there is a problem. A few examples of leaders that performed peaceful resistance are Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Paul Horner. They were the voice of the people and were determined to be heard and to make changes.
Rosa Parks was born in 1913 during the strenuous times of slavery. On December 1, 1955 Rosa stood up for her beliefs in an act of peaceful resistance. Rosa was sitting on a Montgomery, Alabama bus and was asked to get up from her seat for a white man. Rosa refused to move and stayed sitting in her original seat. She was arrested and sent to jail, but because she stood up to the white man and did not give him her seat she set a wave of boycott off. Many African Americans were not riding the bus any more. They decided that enough is enough and they needed to be treated just the same as a white man or woman. There was no violence involved and she was heard. Rosa Parks helped everyone have equal rights. It took a long time, and she was sent to jail for her actions, but with out Rosa

Paul knew the consequences of denying gay couples to get married, but he still chose to deny them of marriage. He knew he was breaking the law, but his beliefs took superiority over it. I am sure that many people do not agree with his actions, but white people did not agree with Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King Jr. either. Peaceful resistance is a way for individuals to express their feelings about a certain law or right that they do not agree with. If we did not have peaceful resistance, who knows we might still have slaves
