My accomplishments within Trio Student Support Services in the regards of being a peer mentor, tutor, and officer are the primary factors of why I believe I should receive this scholarship. My decision to become a peer mentor was due to having a very influential mentor whose guidance was invaluable to me as a first-generation student. As a peer mentor, I was able to provide my knowledge, advice, and suggestions to my protégé as they faced many of the same obstacles that I had to overcome. In addition to being a peer mentor, I work with the students of Trio as an accomplished tutor. My students have often come in lost on difficult material on subjects that include biology, microbiology, algebra, and statistics. By working with these students and teaching them what I have learned from my classes, they leave feeling more comfortable with the information. Alongside these responsibilities, I serve as the secretary for the Trio Scholars Association. It is my responsibility to track meetings and provide the members of the organization and our advisors with current events and information. These reasons justify why I should receive this scholarship that will allow me to obtain the goals I have set for myself in the future.

In order to accomplish my degree, I have to complete two more courses, Introduction to Speech and British Literature, over the summer. As these are summer courses, there are currently no scholarship funds available to assist with the financial costs of these classes. If I were to receive this scholarship, the financial burden of paying for these classes will be lifted from myself and my parents and allow me to leave MCC with a degree.
