Peggy Buford and James Roberts Sr., married for 61 years, son and daughter, mother and father, grandparents and great grandparents, lived through the Dust Bowl and Great Depression at young ages. Both are the age of 85. Peggy was from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and James was from Lubbock, Texas. They met when James moved to Oklahoma City, where his parents started a grocery store. They went to high school together and became really close friends. Later in their lives, they were married and had three little boys; James Jr., Kenny, and Terry. Peggy Buford lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her mother worked at a laundry mat and her father was a potato and bean farmer. She and her siblings used to pick potato bugs off the plants and stick them in a cup of kerosene to kill the bugs. Her family sold rabbits They also had cattle and chickens. The chickens were kept in the hen house at the time of the Dust Bowl because the high winds would blow them away. Peggy, her parents, and her siblings lived in a three bedroom house. In their home, there were always piles of dirt from it squeezing through the seals in the windows and doors. They had to take down the curtains due to the amount of dirt coming in. They were not able to clean it all out of the curtains. There was constant howling from the high winds. Every night for dinner, her family had beans and potatoes. She stated she now does not like to eat beans or potatoes from eating them every
