In the epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer, women are portrayed as manipulative and sneaky. There are many times throughout the story that they use trickery to persuade people’s actions and thoughts. Throughout the plot, Penelope is one person that lies and can be seen as sneaky. In the story, Antinous and the suitors find out about Penelope’s tricks and says, “So by day she’d weave… by night she would unravel all she’d done… she deceived us blind,”(96). Penelope is able to lead the suitors astray by undoing the shroud that she is working on every night. By carrying out this plan, Penelope is able to stall.
