Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America. His face is on the coin used to represent one cent, the penny. Lately that has been quite a bit of debate of the penny's place in America. The penny has every right to stay in the United States. It deserves to be in it's rightful place next to the coins with the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Franklin D. Roosevelt on them. Just like squats, pennies add up over time. Many people are willing to give up their gigantic hordes of pennies for a better cause, charity. Ted Waterhouse writes by collecting pennies for charity, a middle school raised "over $3000 in one week" (Source #2)! Eliminating the penny could make it harder for charities to get money the best way possible: by collecting the unwanted. If the penny were to be kicked out of America, prices would change. Prices would have to be raised to compensate for the loss of the penny. Jeff Sommer writes, "Inflation is sometimes cited as a threat whenever small coins are phased out" (Source #1). A 99­cent piece of candy could become a dollar piece of candy and those pennies will start to add up. Businesses could begin to lose money from prices being increased. One cent should not cause a business thousands or even millions of dollars. The penny "has been apart of the United States history for over two hundred years"
