The Scarlet Pimpernel

Webster’s Dictionary defines a hero as, “one who shows great courage.” Percy Blakeney is a hero because he demonstrates three heroic qualities. He saved the lives of many people, he kept his identity a secret and never took credit for what he did, and he risked his own life for the sake of others. As previously stated, a hero is one who shows great courage. Percy Blakeney shows us his courage when he successfully saves over 15 aristocrats from the guillotine. Following his successful mission saving the aristocrats Percy’s wife Margurite is taken captive by the vengeful Frenchman Chauvelin. In a daring act of valor Percy disguised as a Jewish man rescues his wife and the League of Scarlet Pimpernel. Percy Blakeney
