Perks of being a wallflower and Winter girls What if you are walking around with mental illness? Does it feel any good to have it and live with it day in and out? In the books perks charlie walks day in and out with mental illness and doesn’t know until the end of the book. In the book Wintergirls Lia lives with mental illness not the same type, and doesn’t understand how to help herself get better. In both books Charlie and Lia both have there best friend kill themselves by suicide. That creates more of a mental struggle for the main characters in both the books. They go into this kind of fog that they can not get out of until mental breakdowns. The books tell the story of two completely different people, but what they have in common is the struggle of depression and having someone close to them kill themselves which affects both characters greatly. …show more content…
Whenever Charlie felt alone he would get drugs from Bob. In reality the drugs made charlie feel worse inside. Also in the book Perks of being a wallflower Charlie has his best friend kill himself. When Charlie did find out he had to go to a mental hospital because he got bad as they put it. Charlie lives with a world of pain caused by many things in his past, such as his friend killing himself, having no friends until he meets sam and patrick, and having his aunt touch him inappropriately. Charlie is struggling from past, and has no idea because his brain blocked it out. When Charlie does find out he is already in a mental hospital working things out to become healthy
