Every generation has a set of books that speaks for that generation and what they go through; for this generation, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, written by Stephen Chbosky, is one of those books. The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows the story of a teenager going through the struggles of high school, which are enhanced due to his social awkwardness, such as drugs, smoking, sex, sexual orientation, abusive relationships, friendship, and rape all in the form of diary entries he makes out to a mysterious person he saw at a party who had the chance to sleep with someone but didn’t. The main character is faced with numerous challenges and manages to overcome all of them, but in a way that doesn’t feel far-fetched. The author sucks the reader in from the first page and leaves the reader gasping for more at the end.With every issue the protagonist, Charlie, conquerors, the reader feels like they've just overcome the challenge with him. Charlie is your average day, socially-awkward teenager being faced with socializing, drugs, alcohol, smoking, and sex as told to the reader in the form of diary pages.
