We have been reading Letters FromRifka which is about a Jewish girl who has fled from Russia with her family to the United States to escape persecution. The book’s time period is between the years 1919-1920. The movie to be viewed is Devil’s Arithmetic, and it is about a Jewish girl that goes through the Holocaust. The time period is 1942. The movie shows the progression of persecution of the Jews in the 20th century. While the movie does not show horrific graphic scenes, it can be intense at times showing how families’ lives were disrupted and their freedom taken away.
