While reading the myth of 'Perseus" by Edith Hamilton in Mythology, I observed that Perseus is in fact not a true hero , because he kills Medusa while she is asleep, without giving her any chance. As Perseus is going to to kill Medusa "they were all asleep" he goes and "cuts . . . her neck" while she still sleeps without a fair chance to fight for her life, and this means that he is not a true hero because he does not give her any chance to fight for her life. The authors purpose is to portray the fact that Perseus isn't a hero if you read closely.
