Personal Narrative: A Career As A Sonographer

For as long as I can remember, people have always told me I need to work with people, that I'm such a “people person,” and that my personality and get me places. I never thought of myself being in the medical field until I found ultrasound. Learning that one can potentially save a life in a noninvasive way really struck a cord with me. Ultrasound is so much more than just babies. It's never the same thing every day, it's exciting! Technology is always changing and there's always something that's never been seen just around the corner. In this field, everyone needs to be unique and stand out in their way. I give them a ton of credit to making me the sonographer I am becoming. Being so thankful for them, I want to have that impact on someone in the future. Not only can I help patients everyday in the field, I get to help mold future sonographers and pass down all that I've learned to hopefully help them. That alone makes me happy with my career choice, being able to constantly help people and give back isn't something that everyone gets to do. Personally here at Jefferson, one hears names like Traci Fox, Dr. Laurence Needleman, or Dr. Levon Nazarian and just become overwhelmed with intimation knowing how big in the field they are. They have achieved an entirely new level of accomplishments in their careers that may be they didn't even know they could acquire when they were in my shoes. They did the dirty work and pushed the limits, which is inspiring for students, like me, to try and go above and beyond whenever possible. Why can't that be me one day? Hopefully, one day it will be! This scholarship could help me further my education even more! It can help me attend more conferences, look into more research, study new technologies to help me become the best sonographer I can be for myself and my patients. The medical field is changing fast everyday , and if you don't stay on top of it it's easy to get left behind. The only way to be the best I can be is to never stop
