Sports Medicine Physician 1. Throughout my life I have always loved athletics and being an athlete myself. For many years I was convinced that I would be a professional athlete of some kind, but after a few years the reality hit and I realized I was not going to be a pro. After thinking about careers on and off for several years I became aware that I had never really known what I wanted to do and even now I still don't really know, so I thought about it. Other responsibilities are to follow a treatment plan and keep detailed documents about every important detail. Sometimes it is necessary to refer patients to surgeons if the injury requires it. 9.A sports physician must also be able to educate his or her patient on the injury and the treatment that will be used. 15.One organization that could hire you is a professional sports team that needs a lot of one on one with a particular athlete in order to get him or her back to play as soon as possible. Other organizations or companies that could hire a sports physician is a hospital or medical center to help treat everyday athletes such as a high school football player or a cheerleader. 7.All of these employment options have demanding schedules that don't always have set work hours and could include very early or very late hours depending on patients needs. The most time and schedule demanding employment option is with a professional sports organization as you may have to spend a lot of one on one time with a single patient, and at times it may even be necessary to travel with the team for days which would keep you away from home for extended periods of time, because of this the time spent with family could be affected. 11, 12.The working hours of this job could keep one away from their family for extended periods of time resulting in possibly not being able to attend ball games, dance recitals, anniversaries
