Personal Narrative: A Career As A Watershed Worker

I was able to complete my job shadow over the course of two days at the Malheur County Extension Office. I Shadowed Sergio Arispe a livestock and rangeland extension and an assistant professor at Oregon State University. Sergio invited me to sit in a meeting of the Watershed Council, and listen to any news the members had to report. I observed all the information that was being given, as well as the different roles each member had to contribute. While I was shadowed Sergio I noted how he did not necessarily have a set daily schedule. He was able to do his work on his own time, as long as he fulfilled his obligations. In this line of work is vital to be organized, self-driven, and have an effective work ethic. An environmental engineer is expected to work with engineers, others in environmental sciences, and with the groups managed during research, projects, and experiments. Some of my personal short-term goals are to hold a part-time job while balancing my school work, and other activities. Being more confident in myself, and losing any self-doubt that may cripple me when making important decisions in life. My educational goals include striving towards a degree in environmental engineering by attending Chemeketa community college, then transferring to Oregon State University, or Portland State University to continue my education. I will need to be exceedingly self-driven as to not stray from my studies. I will also have to manage my time wisely between school, my personal life, and other activities. Even though these will be obstacles in achieving my goals, they will be fundamental to have an efficacious career in engineering. To succeed in my goals, I will need to keep my focus and pass
