Personal Narrative: A Career In Football

The first time I stepped on the football field for practice as a freshman was when I began my adventure to find my individuality. In regards to my previous occurrences pertaining to football, competition was all around. I was physically inferior to my teammates in size. I wasn’t the strongest in the bunch, but I was definitely the quickest considering I finished first amongst my team mates in conditioning drills. Not only was speed in my favor, but my height disadvantage helped improve my performance as well. Since I was significantly smaller than my opponents, this meant I had to work twice as hard in running, weightlifting, and going the extra mile when learning drill techniques. Because of my perseverance, I secured the starting position on the football team for two years. by growing up with a chip on my shoulder, this¬ became the foundation of my character off the field. Unfortunately, before I could begin my third year of football on varsity, I tore my ACL during offseason and was forced to sit out. During the rehabilitation to repair my knee, I became fond in the works of physical therapists.

I thought because I was in football for the first two years of high school, I wouldn’t have enough time to achieve academic honors. Through my indomitable spirit and all of the adversities I’ve faced, I enrolled in all advanced classes, and for the first time ever, I’ve maintained nearly A honor roll with either one B+ or straight A’s every grading period with the success of passing my first AP exam for college credit.
