The description of Amelia’s career as forensic psychologist came as no surprise to me considering that I have completed all of the required readings for this course. However, Amelia’s career description would not have met my expectations prior to my participation in this course. Before interacting with this course, my expectations surrounding the forensic sciences were a direct result of observations I had made while watching crime related television shows and movies such as CSI. I had incorrectly assumed that forensic psychology would be an extremely narrow field that primarily involved psychologists assisting police detectives in homicide cases. I have never liked when professors ask me to give them a specific career goal because I have yet to determine one. Also, lacking a clear vision for my career path is not comforting considering that many of my peers seem to have a clear, realistic goal for what they would like to do after completing college. Therefore, I have felt strongly convicted about developing a clear goal for what I would like to do as a career, but have intensely struggled to determine what they may be. Fortunately, the course readings and Amelia’s case study forced me to become curious about pursuing a future career in the broad field of forensic psychology. I appreciated how Amelia explained that individuals should seek out experiences in environments where forensic psychologists work. This piece of advice told me that one can never be completely sure that they would enjoy a future in forensic psychology before spending time in the environment that these psychologists work
