The best eight-teen seconds of my life so far was when I graduated boot camp. More so when the commander of recruit training command welcomed my division, along with multiple other divisions, into the navy. Each division consisted of eighty-four recruits. I felt so proud of my accomplishments. I can remember entering the auditorium and seeing all the people. There were hundreds, all cheering as we marched into the auditorium. I was nervous and excited at the same time. I was nervous about messing up and looking bad in front of every as well as my family. I was excited to be there, though, and nearing the end of my stay at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes. As we marched around the auditorium and made our way towards the spot. The Commanding Officer told us how proud he was to be given the opportunity to congratulate the group of new sailors standing before him. He told us what was expected of us in the future. That our journey had only just begun, and that there would be many adventures to follow this day. As his speech came to close, he yelled out "Liberty call, Liberty call" and everyone cheered. Every sailor broke ranks and began scattering to find their family members. I kept my current position and waited for my family to find me. My fellow division members rushed past me and finally, my family appeared from the crowd. I remember hugging my father as he told me how proud he was of me. He had also served in the Navy. As I went to hug my mother I noticed that she was crying. She had missed having her son at home. I was also congratulated by my older brother and his wife. It felt good to finally be finished with my basic training. I was really excited for the next part of my career in the Navy.
