Personal Narrative: A Day At Hy-Vee

Life is too short to overreact over the small things in life, not to mention, overreacting makes you look foolish. I learned this when I encountered an unkept, middle aged man, who lost his cool while my mom and I were driving to Hy-Vee. At the time I was about 10, my Mom and I were driving to pick up a prescription at Hy- Vee, it was a pretty day. The temperature was warm, the sun was bright, and the trees were beautiful. It was the summer, and it was going to be an amazing day. At the entrance to the parking lot of the Edgewood Road Hy-Vee, a man with a red pickup truck was in the right lane next to us while we were in the left lane. Unaware of the experience we were about to have, we drove to the Hy-Vee pharmacy drive up. After speaking with the pharmacist at the window, we explained what we had for orders. Suddenly, we heard shouting from behind. The man that had cut in front of us was like a blaring radio. His face was red as an apple. He looked crazed and enraged. He ran around our vehicle, a van, shouting about how we honked at him when he believed he had done nothing wrong. He was insane. I was frightened that he might try to attack us. He was erratically moving his hands, pointing and shaking his fist. He ran around our van, threatening and yelling. The pharmacist at the window didn’t know what to do. The Man had the eyes of an animal, a crazed insane animal. After freaking out, the man, enraged, stormed to his truck and screeched away leaving behind a silence that had not been heard for 10 minutes. Fortunately, we experienced no physical abuse, just verbal harassment. I am surprised that a person like that can be on the road with lack of knowledge and uncontrollable temper. Although we did call the police about the incident. We never heard of the man
