Personal Narrative: A Day In The Football Field

It all started with it being around 4:00am. Of course I wasn’t completely awake, I mean who is around 4 o’clock in the morning? My morning was starting off early because it was football season. Which meant long and early workouts all day, every day. Oh we definitely could not be late, if we were, we would certainly be running suicides for every minute we were late. It also just wouldn’t be the people that were late, it would be the whole team. So we had to be down at the field no later than 5:30. Before we headed to the field, we had to hit the weight room first. Oh man the weight room. It was not fun at all in there. The weight room consisted of nothing but long and hard work.

Everyone on the team figured something was wrong because none of our coaches ever acted like that. Once we all entered the room coach looked very very different. I’m not sure what it was but we could all tell that, what we were about to hear was not good. Coach got up on the stand in the middle of the room and all eyes were on him. He looked at us with tears in his eyes, and said “Kids, I have to tell you something.” His face, I can’t explain still to this day. He began to say “I went to the doctor last night for my yearly physical to see how i was doing, and they found tumors in numerous places in my body.” Now let me tell you something, we are grown people, about to head off to college, and every single soul in that room had tears in their eyes. Coach began talking again, “Now i’m sorry to tell you this especially right now, I know it’s a bad time, but i’m gonna have to give my job up to try and get better.” At this point, we were all crying.
