A Life Blessed by Soccer My sights were set on the opposing forward. Only a few more steps before he would take the shot. I adjusted my position and prepared my hands and feet to move at any instant. This was just between the two of us. He continued to approach, cutting his way through our defenders with the utmost ease. But suddenly, he made a sharp move to his right, to which I didn’t have ample time to react. His foot cocked back, he glanced at the goal one final time, and he launched the shot. I dove to my left, but as soon as my cleats left the dirt I could tell something was astray. The shot sailed under my hand, and I soon realized the problem. Nicknamed “the beautiful game,” it’s one of the things I hold most dear in this world. The game has always mesmerized me because it’s unlike any other sport I have ever played. Baseball, football, and basketball all require one to be good with their hands, but none of these sports focus as much on footskills as soccer does. I started playing soccer in preschool, either at the age of three or four, and I still play soccer today. It’s a game I adore due to the dedication and finesse it requires.
