I am a 22-year-old African American female from Jersey City, New Jersey. That one statement alone can make a person wonder one hundred thoughts a minute. This African American female managed to do something that many people who I grew up with never thought I can do and that's going to college and graduate.

As a black female, I was always told to push myself as hard as possible. My mother taught me at an early “ When anyone takes a step forward, you take five steps forward". I never understood that statement. Why do I need to do extra work? If someone takes a step forward, Shouldn't I do the same? When I finally got to college, I understood why I was taught to take those extra steps. For four years, I was tested on how I can survive in the
