Personal Narrative: An Interview With Elias Father

Today I interviewed my cousin his name is Elias Luciano Serrano. Everyone calls him Lulu a nickname people gave him when he was a child. His only fifteen years old and his Mexican- Lebanese- American. Elias father is my father's brother and that's where Elias gets his Mexican Culture from. Elias mother is Lebanese- American. He tells me he values all the culture he learned to love. Even though Elias does not speak Spanish, he loves the culture his father taught him. The way his family values each and one of his family members, and how they are so united when it comes to family. The food his grown to love the Mexican food. He states " My father doesn't really take me to spend time with his family I can see the love he has towards them." He appreciates how his father shows that to feel because he doesn't really have that with his mother side of the family. Elias mother is Lebanese- American, she taught him almost the same thing as his father. His mother's only family is her parents who live with them. Most of her family is in Lebanon, because her mother came to the US when she was pregnant of her. She shows the family love when she talks about her childhood traveling to visit them in Lebanon.

You have to embrace your family, culture, and yourself. I really did not know my cousin was bully through his childhood because of the culture he grew up in. The racial profiling that is still happening in our community even in school. One thing I know I would like my students to know when they enter my classroom that everyone should treating each other with kindness. Every culture is unique and I believe should experience a bit of it. It would be a great activity for the children to have in school they can learn something with a fellow classmates
