Throughout my entire life--or, only as much of it as I can remember--my family struggled financially, as we still do. I had become so accustomed to my family’s penny-pinching tendencies that I would constantly compare prices whenever I went to the grocery store to see if I could find a cheaper price.
I still do.
Growing up, my family and I would go to the movie theater that sold tickets for only a dollar or two, in order to see movies that had been released for months. My siblings and I would combine the cash that we had somehow accumulated to buy popcorn, and we would furtively conceal candy in our pockets or purses to avoid the theater’s high movie concession prices.
