I am outside with my friends hucking a Frisbee as far as my wrist will allow. It is an eighty-five-degree day with a slight crosswind. It’s been three hours but feels much shorter. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. I feel the whip of my wrist sending the Frisbee flying one-hundred feet or so. The summer sun beating down on us, forcing us to smile as we squint to see. After we feel our needs have been satisfy we load into our baked cars. Off we go to cool down at one of our pool’s. It’s days like this that make me happy for weeks. Considering when I’m not playing Frisbee, I’m doing something else active, there’s a clear reason why I’m always in a good mood. This way is by not always being an optimist and allowing yourself to think negatively. People always say that positive thinking creates a happier mindset and healthier lifestyle. They don’t take into account the problems that avoiding negative thoughts possesses. As stated by Springer Science and Business Media, “…the avoidance of negative emotion may result in an ironic effect of lowering one’s well-being, particularly during times of stress” (McMahan et al, 2016, p. 2590). For example, if you don’t look at both sides in situations you will always get your hopes up. The let-downs in life can be a hindrance in personal happiness. In addition, many people stress over thing that they have no control of, no matter how hard they may try. I have always tried to take into account all possibilities and outcomes and not worry too much about unfortunate circumstances. By doing so I know what is within reach and what is a waste of my time. People that overcompensate will never feel a sense of accomplishment because they are constantly striving for something unattainable. Instead, I enjoy the little things in life and don’t stress about things that truly don’t
