Personal Narrative: Caffeine

One of my favorite activities on cold, winter mornings is going to a coffee shop. My ideal cup of java is a white chocolate, raspberry, mocha served piping hot with a simple design drawn in the foam. This became my favorite kind of coffee because of the subtle notes of raspberry and the warm, creamy white chocolate that immediately hit my tongue’s pallet. But the more I consumed the steaming coffee, the more I realized that a white chocolate, raspberry, mocha is much like friendship. At the beginning of every morning, there is almost nothing better than to wake up to a cup of coffee. Part of its attraction is the wonderfully addictive stimulant: caffeine. Caffeine enables its consumers to receive a sudden boost in energy and for some, happiness. The caffeine in coffee works much like a friendship. A strong friendship provides unconditional happiness and energy for the people involved. Being surrounded with positive energy and happiness is something I love about friendship, and about coffee. There are many layers in friendship, just like a white chocolate, raspberry, mocha. After taking a sip of this coffee, one begins to experience a layer of richness from the dark coffee, a level of sweetness from the raspberry, and finally a level creaminess from the white chocolate. There are also different levels of friendship. This first level of friendship is an acquaintance. An acquaintance doesn’t take much communication or commitment, but it does form the base for a future, deeper relationship, just as the rich coffee forms the base for the mocha. The second level of friendship is much greater than an acquaintance. It takes commitment and time, but those involved are able to form intimate and trusting relationships, full of comfort and sweetness, like the raspberry and white chocolate
