Cedar Lake Trail I love that feeling when nothing else matters, but the person right next to me and the scenery. Most people feel safest somewhere close to home. That would not be true for me. My safe place is 3,000 miles away. The most momentous place to me is the Cedar Lake Trail. My entire family, other than my parents and sister, live all the way in Washington. My dad got stationed in Virginia when I was a baby, so we moved when I was 11 months old and have lived here ever since. Being that far away makes it very difficult to know my family and their hometown. Flying 4 people across the country is expensive and challenging to match up with everyone’s schedule. For most of the time we were there, we all stayed at my grandpa’s house. There was some time that we stayed with my uncle, too. My mom and I stayed in Washington for 2 weeks, but my sister had to leave a week before us. My dad would have been there, but he was on deployment at the time. This left just me and my mom at my grandpa’s house for a week. Both my mom and I have always loved nature and exercise outdoors. Over the time we were in Washington, we spent a lot of time walking around and looking at the area from when my mom was little. One of the lakes that runs through the area is called the Cedar Lake. It runs through fields, past many buildings, and alongside a park until the trail ends at a large peer. The walk I took with my mom along the Cedar River Trail was the best part of my whole trip. Something about being alone with my mom out in nature is so peaceful to me. I loved the sound of the birds going past us, the wind blowing through the trees, the water rushing, and people talking in the distance. It felt so warm and calming outside next to the water. We just walked and talked for hours on end. I love seeing the look in my mom’s eyes when she is telling me stories about all the things she did when she was younger and all the trouble she would get in. I cannot wait until I can do that with my
