Cystic Fibrosis Gene
On September 16 my family was blessed with a little girl, Ellianah Kate McDonald, we call her Elli Kate for short. Two hours after she was born Lu and I were rushed to the hospital to go visit Elli Kate. She was 5 pounds, 12 ounces and her head was about the size of your fist. I remember looking at this little gift of God and wondering what she was going to think of me would she like me, would she think I was a good sister. When we left the hospital I remember feeling so happy, everything was okay Ellianah was a healthy little girl, nothing was wrong. Or at least that's what I thought we still had more testing to do.
The next day at about 5:30 my mom and dad brought home our little bundle of joy. It seemed like everything was going as planned she had a little bit more testing to do but we weren't worried I guess we should have been. About three days later my mom went back to the hospital with my sister. I went to school and we all had a normal day everything was fine. It wasn’t until I overheard my parents talking about something it sounded serious. I kept eating my grapes as if I hadn't heard anything and wasn’t interested. My mom looked at me with nervous eyes like a deer before it gets crushed by a steel beast on the highway.

I didn’t know how serious the conversation was going to end up being, all I knew is that I was scared. All kids look up to their parents as if the could save them from anything monsters, bugs, even sickness but that's not true. My mom put her hand on my shoulder “Your sister has cystic fibrosis gene we don’t know if she is a carrier of she has CF.” My head began to hurt and pound how could my sister have cystic fibrosis, I’ve never even heard of that before.I asked my mom what cystic fibrosis was I looked into her eyes and knew everything would be okay. .
