The Extraordinary Individual
Kayla is your typical American teenage girl. She is on the cheerleading team, hangs out with friends on the weekend, constantly drives around in her beat up car, and works hard to get good grades. It may seem that Kayla has it all for her young age but what society does not realize is that Kayla has a different side to her. She deals with feelings of hatred, has times where she feels alone, and days were it is hard for her to put a fake smile on her face. Today many high school students are judged by what they look like on the outside. They feel they need to look a certain way, act a certain way, and be a part of a certain group, in order to survive the destructive halls of high school.

She goes to speak to the boy she was texting late last night but he quickly moves by her and talks to someone else. “Invisible is a good way to explain how I feel somedays. I feel like people know I am around, but no one truly knows I am here.”
When Kayla returns home she is anxious to clean. She tends to use organizing and wiping down the tables as a way to relive her stress from the day. She then completes her homework, goes to a game to cheer, checks her social media, practices the piano, and helps her younger siblings. She lays in bed contemplating her day than kneels down and prays that one day things will get better. I asked those close around Kayla to explain a little about her. Her best friend says, “She loves goats, and cleaning. Nothing makes her happier than knowing that someone is there for her. She loves to eat cup of noodles, and can tumble like a boss. Oh and Harry Potter, she loves Harry Potter!” Her mother says, “Kayla is someone who helps keep our home organized and clean.
