According to the Hate Crime Statistics, in 2014 out of the 5,462 single-bias incidents reported, 47% were racially motivated. Even now in 2016 families cannot turn on the radio or television without hearing about some form of hate crime that has taken place. Hate crimes occur because people are too judgmental. People look at other people and form a judged based opinion without really knowing what that person is like. Brent Staples was judged based on his skin color and gender. Susan Boyles was judged because of her age and appearance. Jimmy Wayne has been judged based on his personal appearance and living conditions as a child, and lastly I have been judged for being exceptional pale. Many years ago, back when I was still attending high school, I had conceited teenage girls tease me because of my exceptional pale skin. They would tell me I needed to go lie in a tanning bed or out in the sun. The girls would say things like, “You’re so white you put the sun out of business.” Apparently the snobby girls were closed minded, anyway, I decided from that day forward I wasn’t going to wear shorts anymore to try and help keep the rude comments at bay. Since they could no longer judge me based of my exceptional pale skin, they decided they would start calling me names such as bug eyes. It didn’t matter what I did they always had something ugly to say about me. I used to let comments like this bother me, but now I just let them go in one ear and out the other. In conclusion, from the evidence provided above people are always going to find reasons to judge each other. Whether, it is because of skin color and gender like Brent Staples. They will judge you based off appearance like Susan Boyles, Jimmy Wayne and I. The world could be a better place if people would stop judging others and really get to know someone. People would have a lot more friends and fewer enemies but it would take a lot of teamwork and everybody would have to be a willing
