It was my 18th birthday. The day I finally become a legal adult. It was 7:00, when I normally wake up for school. My mom came up to the room with a box. I wondered what could be in the box. My mom handed me the box and told me to open it. The box had holes poked in it. Then the box started to move. Did she get me exactly what I wanted? Did she buy me what I had been asking for for a very long time now? I finally opened the box! I looked at mom and screamed, “THANK YOU SO MUCH!” They had gotten me a puppy! It was a golden retriever puppy! It was so cute! I was so excited. This is exactly what I had wanted. My mom was always really proud of me. She came to everyone of my basketball games. We did everything together. She had been by my side when my dad died a year ago. It was a very rough year for my mother and I. I think that is the reason she got me a puppy. I was very close to my dad, so it was very tragic to me when he died. She had brought me my homework when I missed school, she comforted me at the funeral, and the days I needed her most. She came up to my room and saw Duke. She acted like she loved him. A week after I got Duke, things turned upside down. I came home from school and got ready to take him for our daily walk. I walked into the house and called out, “Duke come here boy.” He did not come though. I searched around the house for him. He was no where to be found. I called my mom and asked her, “is Duke with you?” She said, “No he should be at home.” I said, “Well he is not so where is he.” She said, “I have no idea we can search for him after …show more content…
I am going to go look in the basement.” She said, “No! Do not go look.” I decided to go look anyways. I opened the basement door. I started to walk down the stairs. As I walked down, I heard a bark. I looked in the corner! There was Duke. He could not move and he looked like he was under fed. I picked him up and walked out the door. Aubrey tried to run after me and talk to me. I did not want anything to do with her. I told my mom I found Duke. I then brought him to the vet and explained what had happened, or at least what I knew about what had happened. Why would she take my dog? Why would she not feed it? She was my best friend. That is about to change. The vet told me that she would take a look at the dog. She came back and told me, “The dog was not fed and she had a broken leg.” I asked with a quiver in my voice, “Is he going to be okay?” The vet replied, “Yes he will be fine we just have to keep him for a few days and get him back to a healthy weight and nurse his left. In a few days as soon as he is ready, he can go home with
