Grandpa’s Gator Rides My grandpa taught me everything there is to know about loving life. He always inferred that by treating people in a Godly fashion and giving back to the community was the key to living happy. My grandpa was a wonderful person who was full of adventure, even when he was 69 years old and battling cancer. As a kid, I never grasped the concept of cancer and how life threatening it could be. As a 6- year old I always focused on living in the moment instead of stressing about the future. The problem was I thought my grandpa would always be there to hold my hand, to laugh with me, and to have fun. This was always the case when I was with him, especially when he took me on Gator rides around the open corn fields. I always loved being around him because he made life more enjoyable. The worms were frying on the black asphalt. My feet steamed as I tried to walk to the backyard barefoot. I tried to cool off with the running water of the hose, but even that was affected by the sun’s beaming rays. The heat was too much. It was agitating and annoying. I wish I had more time with my grandpa so we could spend more of it rushing down hills together and sharing more laughs with one another. As I saw him for the last time, I remember being in complete awe at how skinny and fragile he looked. As I heard his last couple words, I remember thinking to myself why. Why did this happen to such an innocent person? Why did it happen to my grandpa? I never understood why, but the whole situation did make me stronger as a person and made me realize that the tiny moments were the ones that I most cherished while he was still alive.
