Personal Narrative: Growing Up With ADHD

Growing up with ADHD was very difficult for me. There were many hardships and challenges I had to go through just to understand something and even make friends. As a kid, I would always get into trouble in school and at home because of my behavior issues and not being able to control myself in class because I did not understand anything. There were also many situations where almost was not able to proceed to the next grade because I would never focused in class and I would fail on my test and homework.

One specific challenge I went through that stands out to me the most, while growing up with ADHD, was when I almost was did not pass the 8th Grade due to my grades and behavior. At the time, I was a kid who viewed teachers as someone who was against me instead of on my side trying to help me. I would not listen, do my homework, and would always argue with my teachers when they tried to help me or tell me to stop talking during class. After almost failing the 8th grade my parents and I had a very long discussion about what I can do to behave better and get my school work done. We later came up with a solution that I should have a tutor my Freshman year of high school so I do not get off track early in the semester. Now being a Senior I have learned to control my actions, I have raised my grades tremendously, and I have also been removed from the basic developmental classes I was in. Due to my ADHD, I still sometimes have problems comprehending what I am learning in class and finishing test on time, but I know as long as I keep trying and stay focused on what I am learning I will pass with a great grade even if I have
