I am only a sophomore, so I have not gotten the full high school experience yet. Since high school has started, I have had some great and also not so great experiences. Sports and academics have always been some of my top priorities and I have loved the sport soccer for my entire life. I have gotten and will continue to get the chance to play during my high school career. My freshman year I started off on the JV team just like the average freshman player would. I enjoyed it a lot, although the first few weeks of soccer practice were horrible. They basically consisted of run, sprint, and run some more, but by the time games came around I was having fun and ended up getting to start as an offensive player for the JV team. Coach Peterson announced that she was going to read off the fifteen tentative varsity players for the season. We all realized that varsity rosters consist of eighteen girls to have a full team, so she told us that there were three spots to fill so everyone should keep working hard to try and earn their spot. I actually had hope that I might be able to play varsity. She started to read off the list and I heard Sarah Wendel and my first thought was, she’s in my grade and I don't think I'm going to make it. Then she continued down the list and the next name that popped out at me was Katie Cooling, who was a freshman that was new to our school. As she kept listing off returning varsity players from last year I had lost hope, but all of the sudden I heard my name. Alana Wickering came out of Coach Peterson’s mouth, and I had never been that happy in my life, but I couldn't show how excited I was because most of my sophomore “friends”, some who thought they were better than me, didn't make it and I didn't want to make them feel bad. So I kept it on the inside and texted my parents, grandparents, and a few of my friends in all caps “I MADE
